Choosing a park for Safari: In the dry season, you can select any park, almost everywhere, especially closer to the watering place you will meet animals. In the wet season, you will have to make more effort to search, because the vegetation is green, and the animals are hiding in the foliage.
Therefore, in summer and autumn, you can choose any park. And in the wet season of January – April, it is better to select the northern parks, where the animals are easier to see. Let me acquaint you with the best places to grace wildlife in Tanzania.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is often unnoticed in favor of the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater, making it feels like the park is your private reserve. Tarangire National Park is an ideal presentation of typical African nature. There is plenty to see and a lot of different landscapes.
The landscape is beautiful and very different from that of the savannah as this park is full of huge and ancient baobab trees (Giant Baobab trees are the highlight of this park and an incredible nature icon), it’s not flatland because of the Great Rift Valley so it adds so much to the scenery as well.
The herds of elephants can be seen from every corner of the park. The park is set on a Tarangire river, the permanent river crossing the park attracting wildlife from surrounding areas in the dry season.
Ngorongoro Crater
“Africa’s Garden of Eden” is a haven for thousands of wildlife, a place with a unique heritage and an equally beautiful landscape enclaving the largest ecosystem in the world in a huge bowl. Looking 600m down the crater from the rim is spectacular, undoubtedly one of the most exclusive and rewarding places on the earth for wildlife watching.
Animals are evenly distributed in the huge bowl-shaped hole in the earth. Game drives within the crater in search of the Big Five and other fascinating African wildlife is an experience second to none. For years, Maasai communities dwelled within this area and have maintained a harmonious relationship with wildlife.
Selous Game Reserve
Selous Game Reserve is an ideal safari destination for those who wish to go off the beaten path to escape the mainstream spots. It’s the largest game reserve in Africa and the fact that it’s not crowded provides unlimited opportunities for viewing animals.
At Selous Game reserve you can get out of the jeep and take a walking safari with an armed guard, have a fishing experience, or canoe along the Rufiji River seeing herds of elephants drinking and playing in the river nearby. It’s the home to the largest population of African wild dogs Africa’s most successful predator
Almost half of the total population of elephants in Tanzania lives in Selous Game Reserve – about 50 thousand! Rare birds nest on trees in the forests, and crocodiles and hippos lurk in the swamps.
Lake Manyara.
This reservoir sheltered not only a huge number of waterfowl. On the branches of trees, you can meet lions! They do not make nests, but they feel quite comfortable. There are almost no people near the lake, except for rare groups of tourists, there are no poachers, but there is plenty of water and grass.
Antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, and elephants are found here in abundance. Choosing a safari in this park, you will learn a lot of interesting legends and stories related to this place, which will be told by our guide.
Arusha National Park
If you are visiting Arusha for other purposes than Safari (business/conferences) and do not have time for a long safari or If you have been to the other more significant parks and are tired of big plains and dusty roads, but still want some wildlife and nature experience Arusha National Park is the place to go.
It can offer several activities like horse riding, walking safari, canoeing, and game driving in a day.
Arusha is a small but very green park located between Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. In addition to the jeep safari, the park has 6 main attractions: Arusha National Park
- Great view of Mount Meru
- Colobus – black and white monkeys
- Pink flamingos at 2 lakes of Momella
- Walking safari with an armed ranger (did you order a selfie with a giraffe?)
- Amazing Waterfall
- A huge tree with an arch in the trunk through which you can drive on a safari Jeep!
Arusha Park is truly underestimated by tourists and can outperform many parks!
Mikumi Park.
The park is in the heart of Tanzania. The prices there are quite sparing: camping or overnight stay in a hotel will be inexpensive. If you have planned a budget safari in Tanzania, take a tour of Mikumi for a couple of days. What awaits you in the park? Water meadows with elephants and crocodiles!
Udzungwa Mountain National Park.
Tanzania’s highest Sanje waterfall and forests with unique monkeys and rare birds In the world, all the delights of Africa in one bottle.
Serengeti
Serengeti Park is the largest in Tanzania and is famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration that takes place here every year. This is not a visit to the zoo, the national natural park is an opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat.
The Disney world of animals and one of the last remaining sanctuaries, where millions of animals are combined in a territory of thousands of kilometers of untouched natural habitat. Serengeti captures the essence of a genuine African Safari, boasting the largest diversity of wildlife of any game park in Africa.
It harbors varieties of animals from Big 5 to lesser-known species in an endless plain of the land. With flat landscapes as far as the eye can see, you’ll easily spot lions, cheetahs, buffalo, rhinos, elephants, and the elusive leopard.
Infamous for its iconic nature’s greatest displays, the annual migration of over a million wildebeests and zebras, getting to witness a river crossing by zebras and wildebeest is too awesome for words. Their route has been formed over thousands of years. Neither the rivers swarming with crocodiles nor the lions lying in wait from ambush can prevent the unstoppable movement. The climate determines the migration path, which forms the precipitation map.
Animals such as elephants, giraffes, hippos, several species of antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, monkeys, hyraxes, honey badgers, and smaller representatives of the fauna live here permanently or migrate. The Serengeti consider lions, swift cheetahs, majestic leopards, secretive servals, and graceful caracals to be their hunting grounds.
